The Garage is clean…Yea!

So it appears that Auntie Marilee is waaaaayyyyyyy behind as Halloween was my last post..This is very sad.

But it is time to start again and stay on target.  So here we go!

Over two years ago we decided it was time to clean the garage.  So we unloaded everything and put up new drywall and we built a laundry shelf, and a craft area, and for a time it was our silly, fun area.   …..But life happens and you need room inside the house and so items have to go somewhere and that place is the garage.

And then windstorms hit and blow leaves all over and suddenly you look around and claustrophobia hits and you realize your silly, fun area has become a BIG MESS!!

Every time I went to the garage I thought to myself, we really need to clean this out, but where in heaven’s name do we start.  Then the beginning came with a wonderful email asking for donations to our church charity ACC.  As I scanned the email they were asking for the donations of beds.  I knew that ones of the items in the MESSY GARAGE was a barely used queen size bed.  I called the sister in charge and HORRAY, they were so excited to receive this donation.  Once they took that item away the snowball started to roll and Sara & I started to get motivated with what we would do.

The first step was to rent a small storage unit where we could put some bins of some items that belonged to Sara & Andrew and our family.  The 2nd step was spending a weekend cleaning & scrubbing and – WALLAH, we have our cute area back.

I am sharing pictures below, however I have not attached any of the photo’s of the before shot because I would hate to have good friends and family call shows like “Clean House” or ” Hoarders” on us.  LOL! :-)

I hope everyone has been well since Halloween and you have had memorable moments in your life.  I promise, I will be better at the blogging.

Love

Auntie Marilee

Love Me Some Halloween

Auntie Marilee and her family LOVE Halloween.   This was a special year for Mary because she was almost 3 and she really understood the fun of Halloween.

Sara has always been the Clark W Griswold of our family.  So the beginning of October brought Halloween decorations.

Spooky Halloween decorations

Because we love Halloween we always try and pick a theme.  For those that know me very well, I love Cinderella.  And Mary loves the movie or as she says to me, “lets watch mousies”.  So we decided on Cinderella.  I was to be the Fairy Godmother,  Sara – The wicked stepmother, Andrew – Prince Charming & Mary was Cinderella.

I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as we enjoyed dressing up.

Cinderella smiles with her Mice

Cinderella transforms with the magic of her Fairy Godmother

Prince Charming places the slipper on Cinderella

That wicked stepmother is really in a bad mood. However Cinderella doesn't care because Prince Charming is always Happy!

The whole cast on their way to the church Halloween party

On Halloween we went to Mindy’s house so we could hang out with the family we love and enjoy some good food.  I have attached pictures of the cute Amanda, Ashley & Mikaela dressed up to snag lots of candy.

We have the beautiful Candy Corn Witch, Little Red Riding Hood and Miss Scissorhands. I still don't know how Mikaela trick or treated with those scissor hands.

Sisters getting ready to collect candy.

Melissa loves her Candy Corn Witch!

Melissa does her Vanna White impression showing off the scary cupcakes at the party. They were very yummy!

Prince Charming and his Cinderella pose on the royal staircase

Instead of the cast of Cinderella we have a very Royal Family.

As the party comes to an end, the Royal couple dance to the car!

As parties were happening in California there were spooky costume changes happening in Lehi, Utah.   Introducing the adorable Potter children.

Holly the cheerleader & Lily my beautiful Snow White get ready for Trunk or Treat

Noah wants to suck your blood & Ruby will cast a spell on you.

Halloween night brings some costume changes for Holly the Unicorn & Noah the tough Spiderman. I bet some good candy was collected.

I hope you had a Spooky, Scary & Yummy Halloween.  Till next time.

October – The Best Time Of The Year

Hello All – Auntie Marilee here.

I must say, I LOVE October.  It brings the scents of Fall – cinnamon, apples, pumpkins.  If we are lucky we get some Fall colors and some crisp air (not yet – but I’m hopeful :) )

Typical for me I had not used all my vacation days so I took off some extra days to get a 4 day weekend and my sister who is the queen of finding fun places planned us 4 days of fun.

Our first stop was the Irvine Park Railroad and Pumpkin Patch.  It was the best day and we all gave it 2 Thumbs up.  I am sharing some pics below of our fun times.

Mary is in her horsey faze.  So our first stop was to ride on a real life pony.  The pony we were given was named Aspen.

All aboard Aspen

Mommy & Daddy, that was a fun ride.

Our next stop in the park was an old time railroad that took us on a ride through the park.  We discovered the park was one of the oldest in Southern California at 114 years.  It was a beautiful ride and we were told that all manner of wildlife can be seen.  We saw lots of peacocks and lots of ducks.

All aboard the pumpkin liner.

After the train ride Mary decided she wanted her face painted.  She decided she wanted a scary, pink bat.  However it was required that the bat sparkle. (She gets the love of sparkle from Auntie.  LOL! )

The painting process

The sparkling finished product

Next there was a bounce house.  Now most kids are excited to jump up and down, Mary however just wanted to sit & contemplate life.  At one point we saw her playing with her plastic spider and singing The Itsy Bitsy Spider.

Sitting in the bounce house singing the Itsy Bitsy Spider

Luckily we had signs to direct us and we chose the Haunted House, but as you can see it wasn’t too scary because we are all smiling.

Which way shall we go

The Haunted Saloon/House

Sara & Andrew appear to be frightened of our pioneer relative.

Happy faces as they leave the haunted house

Next stop was the hay maze.  Fortunately it was easy enough and we didn’t have to call 911 to be rescued.  : )

Once again the plastic spider had to climb the hay wall

Auntie, Andrew & Mary look so happy to be lost in the maze

The Ostlers stop for a smile as they leave the maze

On the way to panning for gold Auntie stopped for a ride on a horsey.

Giddy up fake horsey

A scary Andrew Frankenstein

A witch and her kitty

Creepy - Sara & Andrew are heads in a jar.

Sara relived her trip to Sacramento many years ago and panned for gold.  Mary had no interest in the process so she and Auntie took a walk but Andrew & Sara had lots of fun.

There is "fake gold" in dem der hills!

As the day started to come to a close we stopped to pose with big, orange pumpkins and finished the day with a Hay Ride.  The people that drove the tractor were so nice and gave us tons of opportunities to take pictures.

A kiss among the pumpkins.

The girls and pumpkins

I think his tractor's sexy.

Now that is a tire.

Mommy & Daddy snuggle..lots of snuggling

LEGOLAND

On Saturday we got back into the chariot and headed to Carlsbad to Lego Land.  We chose to go before Mary’s birthday because she was free and we discovered they offered trick or treating for the kids.  Unfortunately because of the unpredictable weather of California, we were promised 75 and Sunny but by 5:00 a wet, cold fog rolled in and made it very uncomfortable.

However I got some really cute pictures before the weather sent us to our hotel for the evening.

Dressed like a kitty and ready to trick or treat!

Auntie and her little kitty

Taking a safari ride..beware of wild Lego animals.

I didn't know kitties were hatched..Did you?

Searching for dinosaur bones.

Getting ready to Trick or Treat

Which Witch do you like better?

A happy smiling family on the Trick or Treat trail

The best line of the whole trip, Mary looks in her trick or treat bag, realizes that they have given her a magazine and she says " A book, where is my candy."

Stopping for a sample.

Waving to Auntie while on the log ride

Climbing the hill

Splash Splash Splash

One more time..with Daddy!

Once again, splash splash splash!

San Diego Temple

Mary has been asking to go to the temple or as Mary referred to it Jesus’s big house.  So after we checked out of the hotel we hopped on the 5 and took a short drive to the San Diego temple grounds.  In my opinion it is one of the more beautiful temples.

We are loaded and ready to go.

Ready to help Daddy load the car

Part of my silly eternal family

This picture makes me think of the song, "I Am A Child Of God"

We are tiny but we are smiling big.

With this last picture this blog comes to an end..but stay tuned quickly, we have Halloween…muhwahahaha!  Auntie Marilee

The beautiful pumpkin princess

Auntie Marilee is so very lucky to have you living here with me so I can experience your beautiful personality as it emerges.  Happy Happy 3rd birthday.

The Summer Wrap Up

So it appears that Auntie is waaaaayyyyyyy behind in the fun things that happened this summer.  Because of this I thought I would do one long entry with lots of pictures.

LEHI, UTAH

In June I went to see my favorite Potter Peeps.  Because I got a late start I didn’t arrive till after 9 PM and I had very anxious kids waiting to see me as they had been permitted to wait up to greet me.  I know their parents were very glad to see me because I think they wanted to go to bed to.  LOL!

My sweet Noah gave up his room to Auntie and when I arrived I found this sign on the bedroom door.

Translation - "Anyone is welcome in my room"

I felt so welcomed!  My wonderful nieces and nephew get up at 7 AM and once again they were driving their parents nuts because they wanted to know when Auntie would be downstairs.  When I finally emerged, David said “Thank Goodness, now they will stop asking where you are.”

The first day they wanted to show me their backyard and the swings.  Of course I was required to push them.  Thank goodness I have 2 arms.  LOL!

Look at us swing

Ruby & Noah teeter & totter

Sweet Lily smiles for Auntie

Holly shows her gymnastic moves. Can you say Olympics!

After we had our fill of swinging and games of GO FISH we played with the all important Wii.  Mind you Auntie’s talents in video games run along the Pacman/Frogger route and she is not really good at those.  :-)  However Noah is an expert and was very excited to create an Auntie Mii.  I must admit, it looked like me.  We played Press Your Luck (A replica of our favorite game show from the 80′s – “No Whammies, No Whammies – Stop!”)  We moved on to Lawn Darts but when I couldn’t work the control I got many sighs from my 7 year old Noah.  I’m sure the inner monologue of Noah went something like “Sheesh Auntie, can’t you work a simple game control, must I do everything”.    I’m sure I have the same inner monologue with my Dad when trying to teach him to email.  LOL!

The next day we put on bathing suits and headed over to Lehi Pools.  We had a blast and were joined by Andrew, Sara & Mary.   There are lots of shallow areas and small water slides for the kids.  One of the favorite items is the GIANT BUCKET OF WATER that fills slowly and then dumps on the occupants in the pool.  It is a very exciting time, wondering when it will drop.

The Bucket of Doom fills....Muwahahaha!

Noah tries to get away but David holds him tight!

The bucket drops its contents on David & Noah!

Happy Potters in the shallow end.

My Happy Water Lily

Holly stops swimming to give me a smile

Ruby relaxes in the pool

Auntie enjoys the lazy river

Andrew is so happy to be in the pool

Mary loves the lazy river too.

Swimming makes everyone tired & hungry so we all went home, changed and had a bite to eat.  The rest of the day was spent visiting and hanging out.

The next day brought lots of homemade food.  Auntie made her chocolate chip cookies and had lots of help.  I had one to crack the eggs, one to dump in the sugar and one to dump in flour and chocolate chips.  It took double the time but I wouldn’t have changed anything, it was the best.

A sneaky Michelle hand reaches in for a cookie.

Auntie had one demand when she visited and that was to have Michelle’s homemade pizza.  I have heard for years and years how good it was and had to try for myself.  You will see the yummy process as it unfolds.

Move over Rachel Rae here comes Michelle Potter

The secret ingredient Soy Lechitin..I asked Michelle what does it do best, she didn't know.

An Impressive looking dough ball

David presses it in the pan. He doesn't look very confident, does he?

Ruby helps put on the toppings.

Auntie now understands what all the fuss is about, because it was yummers! Thanks, Michelle

The rest of my trip was filled with odds and ends.  Bubble blowing, picture taking, and trips to the park.  Before you could say Vacation my week with the Potters was up.  How could that be, it seems like I just got there.  Oh well, all good things must come to an end.

Aunties must be expert bubble blowers.

What a face for an Auntie to love!

It's wrestle time..

Action shot..catch Auntie.

Holly & Lily my leaf collectors

Me and my brother..Love you David.

My favorite couple

When Ruby was visiting us for Easter she & Sara & I started a shooting game.  Whenever we see each other we pretend to shoot.  Whoever does it first, wins.  I don’t know what we win, we just win.  When Michelle was a little concerned I explained they were bullets of love.  LOL!

Ruby & I are locked & loaded.

The next Charlie's Angels

Yes, Auntie is crying because she is a giant Boob, but I have always been a boob and nothing will change as I get older- LOL!

Love is not a strong enough word for what I feel for these faces.

So after more hugs I left and started my drive to Ephraim, Utah.  I was finishing out my vacation there because I wanted to see the Mormon Miracle Pageant that is performed on the lawn in front of the Manti Temple.  I strongly encourage all to see it as it is such a fabulous story and made me so grateful for my pioneer relatives and the sacrifices they made.

Hanging out in town by the Bubbling Brook. Watch out for Mosquitoes.

Posing before the show starts!

After the fabulous show, i grabbed a few winks at the Ostler home and drove home to start the work week again.  I love my family and I loved my vacation.

July ( Michelle’s 40th & Stadium Of Fire)

Okay so here is the story you have been waiting for that I eluded to in a previous post.  July 1st is my favorite sister-in-law’s birthday and it was a special one because she was turning Forty & Fabulous.  I knew what Sara was planning to give her and I was going to be unable to join because I had just spent a week with them in June.     ( I did however take her to lunch in June so I was covered – phewww).

Stadium Of Fire is presented at BYU stadium with an AWESOME fireworks show and usually a country star singing.  This year was going to be the handsome Brad Paisley. ( He is HOT!)  However because I couldn’t be there in person, I devised a way to be there in spirit.  And that is what I refer to as “AUNTIE ON A STICK”.  I donned a cowboy hat, took my picture, attached myself to a Popsicle stick and Ta Da, I am now attending the concert.  Michelle & Sara were a little embarrassed to take me but they got over it really quick because the kids thought it was awesome.  They actually fought over who got to play with Auntie.  Below you will see the adventures of Auntie on a Stick.

Leaving for the concert..Yikes must we carry Marilee around on a stick!

Even Aunties on a stick get thirsty...Ahhh now that is a good diet coke.

Auntie on a stick meets Brad Paisley.

Happy 4th of July

Noah & Holly play with Auntie on a stick. I was such a hit there had to be time limits. LOL!

The kids were not the only ones that liked to take Auntie out. The next day David thought I would enjoy posing with Salt Lake Temple.

Labor Day at Pismo..Our Last Fling

So temperatures in the 3 digits make Sara & I a little crazy.  Since Joy School was starting for Sara & Mary, this was our last long weekend to go find some cool weather.  Our favorite Shell Beach did not disappoint.  In fact it bordered on cold that weekend.  Anytime we have gone to Pismo Beach we have always said the last day you are there is always the prettiest and Monday was no exception.  So we gathered up chairs, sand toys, and shovels and met Melissa, Amanda, Ashley & Dylan at Pismo to soak up the sun and the waves.

Unfortunately there were little bits of dried seaweed and driftwood and Mary stepped on one and from that point on she had to be carried because she was afraid of  the sand.  It finally took some coaxing from her cousin Amanda and her Mommy with the promise she could help bury Daddy in a hole to get her to walk on the sand.

I however enjoy just sitting in a chair and reading a book..okay my Nook but same difference.  It was glorious.  Below are some of the pictures that were captured.

Melissa & I enjoying the sun while reading trashy books. Now that is living.

The Ostlers enjoying the day.

Ashley in her sand recliner.

Sara in process of building the all important drip castle.

Amanda attacking Dylan..I don't know why..I guess because it's fun.

Your never too old to dig in the sand

So I come to the end..and if you are still with me you are probably saying to yourself “Finally” but I just can’t help myself when it comes to my family.  They are absolutely the best thing in the world.  I am blessed beyond belief.  I hope you all had a fabulous summer and are looking forward to fall as I am.  Till next time,  Auntie Marilee

Oh what do you do in the summertime…..

You know the song, “Oh what do you do in the Summertime, When all the world is Green”…..Well the Ostlers decided to have an outdoor camp out.

This started because Verdugo Hills Ward was having a father/daughter camp out but they didn’t think Mary was quite old enough, so they decided to do a test run in the backyard.   Here are some of the adventures they had…just like a good old family camp out.

First thing you do is pick your spot and assemble your tent.

Putting Up The Tent

After your tent is assembled you take a little hike and checkout the local wildlife such as bobcats and lizards.

To quote Steve Irwin..What a little beauty

Don't make any sudden moves and he won't attack.

After you come back to camp you prepare to go fishing.  As it turns out, Mary is quite a good fisher.

She caught one

She is so proud

As night falls you prepare the campfire and make the all important Smore.  Yummers!

Happy Family in front of the indoor campfire.

As you can see, smores are delicious.

As the evening drew to a close and the ingredients to the smores had to be put away Mary was concerned that the wild life have a smore as well.

They say, don't feed the animals.

The one good thing about backyard camping is the bathrooms are clean and close by.

Behind Door #1 is a clean bathroom.

Once our needs have been taken care of, we get into our PJ’s and snuggle down for the evening.

Goodnight moon and goodnight Mary

P.S.  If you don’t mind looking sideways enjoy Mary’s campout sing along.
